All Physical Toll Booths In India To Be Removed Within 1 Year: Nitin Gadkari In Parliament
All physical toll booths in the country will be removed within one year, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced in Lok Sabha on Thursday.
New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari was speaking in Lok Sabha when he made the major announcement that all physical toll booths in the country will be removed within one year.
"I want to assure the House within one year all physical toll booths in the country will be removed. Toll money will be collected based on GPS imaging," Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said during the Question Hour on Thursday.

"Camera will be placed at the entrance of road which will capture your image on GPS and it will charge you only for the areas you enter and exit," he added.
The minister informed that the GPS system will be obtained with the help of Russia and the toll charges will be directly deducted from the user's bank account.
The new vehicles will have FasTags fitted in them, while the government has said that it will give free FASTags for old vehicles.
Gadkari concluded the point by saying that "there will be no toll (booth), no one will stop you. We will finish this within one year".
Besides this, Gadkari also announced the much-awaited vehicle scrappage policy which will offer about a 5 percent rebate to those buying new cars if they junk their older vehicles. It was informed that the scrap value for the old vehicle to be given by the scrapping centre will be approximately 4 to 6 percent of the ex-showroom price of the new vehicle.
