Cash For Query Row: Mahua Moitra 'Clarified Her Position', TMC Says. BJP MP Calls For 'Ceasefire Till Dussehra'

Moitra has dismissed his allegations, claiming that the BJP is pursuing her at the request of the Adani Group, which has been the subject of her attacks both within and outside of parliament.

After repeatedly targeting Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra over "cash for query" charges, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said on Sunday that he will observe a "ceasefire until Dussehra on October 24," news agency PTI reported. Dubey is due to testify before the Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee on October 26 in relation to his claims against Moitra that she took favours from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking issues in Parliament.

Moitra has dismissed his allegations, claiming that the BJP is pursuing her at the request of the Adani Group, which has been the subject of her attacks both within and outside of parliament.

After taking his complaint of corruption against her to Lokpal, Dubey on his official X handle stated: "Due to the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, I invoke ceasefire from my side from ashtami today to Dashmi on October 24."

Moitra filed a defamation complaint in the Delhi High Court following the claims made by Dubey and his counsel, Jai Anant Dehadrai.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has sent Dubey's complaint to Parliament's Ethics Committee.

Mahua Moitra Has Clarified Her Position On The Matter: TMC

The Trinamool Congress stated on Sunday that as its MP Mahua Moitra has previously addressed her position on suspicions of bribery for issues made, the party would now await the parliamentary ethics committee's investigation because the topic concerns "her rights and privileges."

The TMC has distanced themselves from the issue surrounding the charge levelled against the Lok Sabha member.

Speaking with PTI, Rajya Sabha MP O'Brien stated: "The member concerned has been advised by the party leadership to clarify her position regarding the allegations levelled against her. She has already done that."

"However, since the matter has to do with an elected MP, her rights and privileges, let the matter be investigated by the right forum of Parliament, after which the party leadership will take an appropriate decision," he added.

Kunal Ghosh, TMC's West Bengal general secretary and spokesperson, stated that the party had nothing to comment about the matter and that the "person around whom this controversy is revolving is best suited to react to this."
