Third Wave Of Covid Has Hit Delhi, 10K New Cases Expected Today: Health Minister Satyendar Jain

Jain further said the Delhi government has instructed the private hospitals to increase the number of reserved beds for Covid-19 patients to 40% from 10% of their capacity.

New Delhi: Asserting the “third wave” of Covid-19 has set in, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said the national capital is likely to report around 10,000 coronavirus infections on Wednesday.

“Delhi is likely to report around 10,000 COVID infections today, with the daily positivity rate rising to nearly 10%. The third wave of COVID-19 has set in,” he said.

Jain further said the Delhi government has instructed the private hospitals to increase the number of reserved beds for Covid-19 patients to 40% from 10% of their capacity.

“Nearly 2% of beds are occupied in the government hospitals,” ANI quoted Jain as saying.

The Delhi Health Minister’s remarks come as the national capital reported 5,481 new Covid-19 cases and three more deaths earlier on Tuesday.

Delhi currently has 14,889 active cases.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) decided to impose a weekend curfew in the national capital beginning this week.

Only essential movement will be allowed during the curfew.

Meanwhile, the country has reported 58,097 fresh Covid-19 cases, 15,389 recoveries, and 534 deaths in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate has jumped to 4.18%.

There are 2,14,004 active cases in the country, while 3,43,21,803 people have so far recovered. The death toll currently stands at 4,82,551    

With the administration of 96,43,238 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 147.72 crores as per provisional reports till 7 am today, the Union Health Ministry said in a release, adding this has been achieved through 1,58,21,510 sessions.
