Tensions Over Offering Namaz At Gurugram Ground Persist, Hindu Outfit Performs Aarti & Havan: Report

Gurugram Namaz Issue: For four consecutive weeks, there was a protest against offering Namaz in the open in Sector 37 of Gurugram.

New Delhi: The row protest over offering Namaz in an open ground in Gurugram continues as according to a report, a Hindu outfit carried out chanting of Hanuman Chalisa, followed by Aarti and Havan at the same place where Namaz was supposed to be offered.

The organisation claimed that their prayer activities were undertaken to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, as per NDTV's report.

According to the report, the Muslims gathered had initially planned to leave without praying, but around 25 decided to proceed with prayers which were held to shouts of 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. When the 20-minute namaz ended, two men from the Hindu outfit crossed the 30-metre distance to claim the space, NDTV reported, adding that the Muslim community members decided to leave the site peacefully.

For four consecutive weeks, there was a protest against offering Namaz in the open in Sector 37 of Gurugram.

No prayers held at Gurudwara last week

Last week, the Sikh community offered space in the Sadar Bazar Gurudwara in Gurugram to Muslims for offering their prayers. The Gurudwara Singh Sabha Committee had said that if the Muslim community wants to, they can visit any gurudwara in the city and offer their prayers. However, prayers were not offered there. News agency ANI quoted a spokesperson as saying: "Muslims themselves refused to offer namaz to avoid any conflict".

Protest against open prayers:

A protest was organised against offering prayers in the open at Sector 12A of Gurugram on Friday. While the Gurugram administration had allotted 37 places for offering Namaz two years ago, the number has now reduced to 20.
