Tamil Nadu Braces For Heavy Rainfall In 5 Districts, Temperature Set To Rise In These Pockets

The IMD has forecast a gradual rise of 2–3°C at isolated pockets between April 7 and 9 across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, particularly in the Ghat regions. A yellow alert has been issued for Coimbatore (Ghat areas), Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, and Tenkasi districts, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected in several parts of the state.

Rainfall was reported at many places across South Tamil Nadu and a few areas in the north and Puducherry. Karaikal, however, continued to experience dry weather conditions.

The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Tirupattur at 37.8°C, while the coolest minimum temperature in the plains was noted at Coimbatore Airport at 20.6°C. Despite a general rise of 3–6°C in maximum temperatures in some areas, certain locations in Tamil Nadu still registered below-normal temperatures by 2–4°C. Most places remained within the typical April range: 34–38°C in North Interior Tamil Nadu, 33–35°C in the South Interior, 31–35°C along the coast, and 19–27°C in hilly regions.

The weather agency attributed current conditions to a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, and a trough stretching from Madhya Maharashtra to North Tamil Nadu across Interior Karnataka. However, a previous circulation over Tamil Nadu has weakened.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast

Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast no significant change in maximum temperatures for the next two days (April 5 and 6), followed by a gradual rise of 2–3°C at isolated pockets between April 7 and 9 across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. During this period, daytime temperatures may rise above the seasonal average, particularly in interior regions.

In Chennai, residents can expect partly cloudy skies with occasional light rain in some areas. The maximum temperature is predicted to hover between 33–34°C, while the minimum will likely remain around 27–28°C.
