SHO Removed, 4 Arrested In Murder Case Of Muslim Youth In UP For Celebrating BJP Win

SHO D K Singh of Ramkola Police Station has been removed from his post and sent to police lines, a police official told PTI.

New Delhi: A Station House Officer (SHO) has been removed from his post following the death of a Muslim youth who was allegedly beaten to death by neighbours for participating in BJP’s election campaign and later celebrating it in the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh, news agency PTI reported.

SHO D K Singh of Ramkola Police Station has been removed from his post and sent to police lines, a police official told PTI.

As per news agency ANI, four accused have been arrested in the case by the police and further investigation is still on.

"4 accused arrested; family is naming another accused, will probe further. Protection to be given to kin. PS in charge removed," DIG Ravinder Kumar Gaud told ANI.

The UP police had filed an FIR on March 20 about a 25-year-old Babar Ali being injured after being beaten up by his neighbours. The victim succumbed to injuries on March 25 after which the police arrested the accused.

As per PTI, the complaint was filed by the victim’s wife Fatima Khatoon against Azimullah, Arif, Salma, and Tahid.

The family of the deceased told police that he was being threatened by their neighbours for the past four months as he supported BJP, while the others pressured him to vote for Samajwadi Party.

After BJP’s victory in the assembly polls, Babar Ali burst crackers and also distributed sweets which made his neighbours angry leading up to violence.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath also condoled the demise of the youth and asked the police to probe the case fairly.
