Salman Khan Firing Case: Police Tell Court Accused Opened Fire In Attempt To Kill Him

This comes after Mumbai Police's crime branch disclosed to a local court that the two suspects apprehended in connection with the firing incident had allegedly intended to assassinate Salman Khan, news agency PTI reported. The accused individuals, identified as Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21), hailing from Bihar, were captured in Gujarat's Kutch district after evading authorities since the incident.

"Gupta was riding the motorcycle at the time of the incident and Pal, who was riding pillion, had fired shots at the actor's house," stated the police, as quoted by PTI. The duo was presented before a magistrate's court on Tuesday, where the police sought a 14-day custody to delve into the conspiracy and identify the mastermind behind the attack.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate L S Paden granted the police custody of the accused until April 25, endorsing the police's assertion that the suspects had aimed to kill Salman Khan. "The two accused opened fire outside Salman Khan's house in an attempt to kill the actor. Custodial interrogation is required to identify the mastermind and to also ascertain the motive," stated the police's remand note submitted to the court, as per PTI.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrested individuals reportedly confessed to their involvement in the shooting, PTI cited police sources as saying. Authorities emphasised the necessity of custody to determine if the suspects had intentions to target anyone else apart from Salman Khan.

Furthermore, the police noted the imperative need to recover the firearm used in the incident and investigate the motorcycle employed by the assailants. They highlighted a claim made on social media platform Facebook, indicating a foreign-based account taking responsibility for the attack, which necessitates further scrutiny.

"The IP address of the FB post was traced to Portugal," a senior official remarked, as per PTI's report.

The suspects have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy, along with provisions of the Arms Act. The incident, occurring at approximately 5 am on Sunday, witnessed two assailants on a motorcycle firing shots outside Khan's residence in Bandra, Mumbai, before fleeing the scene. The motorcycle was later discovered abandoned near Mount Mary Church, approximately a kilometre away from the actor's house.
