New Delhi: On the eve of Republic Day 2022, 317 Army personnel have been conferred with various Gallantry and distinguished service awards.
These include 6 Shaurya Chakras, 84 Sena Medals (Gallantry) including 3 Bar to Sena Medal and 4 posthumous and 77 Vishisht Sena Medal (Gallantry), 19 Param Vishisht Seva Medal, 4 Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, 33 Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, 10 Yudh Seva Medal, 40 Sena Medal (Distinguished), and 44 Mention-in-Despatches.

Shaurya Chakra
The Shaurya Chakra is an Indian military medal bestowed for gallantry, bravery, or self-sacrifice while not engaged in direct combat with the enemy. It can be given to both citizens and military personnel, and it can be given posthumously.
Circular in form, one and three-eighth inch in diameter, and made of bronze. On the obverse of the medal, a reproduction of the Ashoka Chakra in the centre, encircled by a lotus wreath, should be engraved. On the reverse, the words "SHAURYA CHAKRA" will be imprinted in both Hindi and English, separated by two lotus flowers.
This year, six Shaurya Chakra awards will be bestowed to Indian Army personnel, out of which, 5 will be awarded posthumously.

Sena Medal
The Sena Medal is given to Indian army troops of all grades "for such individual acts of outstanding dedication to duty or courage as having unique importance for the Army." Posthumous awards are permitted, and a bar is authorised for consecutive Sena Medal grants.
Made of silver and shaped in a circle. The attachment must be a fixed ring attached to a 3mm broad metal stripe embellished with Ashoka Leaves. It features a bayonet with a point upwards etched on its obverse. It also features an armed sentry and the inscription imprinted around the upper rim on the reverse.
