Republic Day 2025: Is It India's 76th Or 77th Celebration? Here's The Answer
Republic Day 2025: India will celebrate Republic Day on January 26 featuring a grand parade showcasing armed forces, paramilitary contingents, and cultural tableaux from various states.

Republic Day 2025: India will celebrate its Republic Day on January 26, 2025, marking 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution. The annual Republic Day Parade, a key highlight of the celebrations, will take place on Kartavya Path in New Delhi.
While India is celebrating 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution, this year is India's 76th Republic Day. This is because India's first Republic Day was on January 26, 1950, marking the date when the Constitution of India came into effect. Counting from 1950, 2025 will mark the 76th anniversary.
The R-Day celebrations serve as a reminder of the nation’s struggle for independence and the power of its democratic framework.
While India gained independence in 1947, the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950 marked the culmination of the Constituent Assembly's efforts. The date also holds historical significance as it was on this day in 1930 that the Indian National Congress declared "Poorna Swaraj" (complete independence) from British rule.
The first-ever Republic Day parade in 1950 took place at the Irwin Amphitheatre, now known as Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. The parade was later shifted to Rajpath (now Kartavya Path) in 1955, with Pakistan’s then-Governor General Malik Ghulam Muhammad as the chief guest.
76th Republic Day's Theme
Each year, the government sets a theme for Republic Day. The theme for 2025 is "Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas" (Golden India: Heritage and Development), highlighting India's cultural legacy and progress.
The parade will feature a grand display of the Indian Armed Forces, along with paramilitary contingents, marching from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate. The event will also showcase vibrant tableaux from various states, reflecting the country's rich cultural diversity. This year, tableaux from 15 states and union territories, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh, will be part of the parade.
Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has been invited as the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations.
On the eve of Republic Day, the President of India will address the nation, underlining the historical significance of the occasion.
