Rains Continue To Pound Mumbai, Landslide Injures 3. IMD Issues Alert Till July 8 | Key Points

A "yellow alert" has been issued by the IMD in north central Maharashtra, east Vidarbha and west Vidarbha for Wednesday and orange for Thursday and Friday.

As heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs continued to distrupt normal life, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday warned citizens of more downpour in the city for the next three days. Mumbai today witnessed heavy downpour for the third consecutive day, resulting in a landslide near a chawl, water-logging in several areas and traffic disruptions. the torrential rains pounded the country's commercial capital Mumbai, coastal Konkan and other parts of Maharashtra since last night, inundating many towns, and villages in different areas.

Weather officials have informed news agency IANS that they have so far evacuated around 3,500 people to safer areas and all districts have been put on high alert. There have been no reports of any rain-related casualties so far from in Mumbai or other cities of Maharashtra.

Here's All You Need To Know About Torrential Rains In Mumbai & Nearby Suburbs:

1. The IMD has issued a "red alert" for south Konkan, Goa and south central Maharashtra from July 6-8. The weather department has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places during this period. It has also issued an "orange alert" for north Konkan.

2. A "yellow alert" has been issued by the IMD in north central Maharashtra, east Vidarbha and west Vidarbha for Wednesday and orange for Thursday and Friday. Additionally, "yellow alert" was also issued for the Marathwada region, with IMD predicting heavy rainfall on Wednesday and the next two days.

3. A private weather forecasting company Skymet stated that active monsoon conditions will likely continue for the next 10 days due to the development of an intense low-pressure system. It also warned of extreme weather conditions in parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, and Gujarat on Thursday and Friday.

4. Meanwhile local trains Mumbai were operating normally, but some commuters claimed the suburban services were running a little late. However, bus services were diverted on two dozen routes at six locations. Till Wednesday morning, South Mumbai received an average 107 mm rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 172 mm and 152 mm downpour.

5. Neelam Junction, Deonar, Mankhrud railway bridge, Everard Nagar, Antop Hill, Chembur, Dadar T T Junction, Hindmata junction, Sakkar Panchayat, Wadala, Kings Circle, Matunga, Kurla Kamani area and some other places even witnessed massive water-logging resulting in slow traffic movement.

6. Three persons, including a minor boy, were injured after a portion of a hill crashed on the two-storey Narayan Hadke Chawl (tenement) in Chunabhatti area around. Three rooms in the chawl were damaged due to the landslide. As a precaution, the civic body has evacuated residents from other adjoining rooms in the chawl.
