Rahul won't retract his resignation, Congress to elect new party chief: Sources
As per reports, the party is going to take a decision on the same after Rahul Gandhi’s return from his Kerala tour on June 9 for the party wants to decide on the same before the budget session of the parliament starts.
New Delhi: Days after Congress President Rahul Gandhi handed over his resignation from the post of party Chief at party’s Working Committee meeting, after a massive defeat in Lok Sabha elections, speculations floated that Gandhi has retracted his resignation. The same has now been rejected by party sources which tell that Gandhi did not and is not likely to take back his resignation.
Therefore, the party is more likely to elect a new President.
As per reports, the party is going to take a decision on the same after Rahul Gandhi’s return from his Kerala tour on June 9 for the party wants to decide on the same before the budget session of the parliament starts.
As per sources, the party’s new president could also be elected from down South and party can also appoint a group of young leaders and hand over the charge of taking important party decisions to them.
Immediately after Gandhi handed over his resignation, various party leaders unanimously requested him to continue to lead the party as president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to steer it through the difficult times.
Following a stumping defeat from Bharatiya Janta Party in Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi also accepted his defeat in front of the public and later congratulated PM Modi for his victory.
