Purvodaya 2019: Government Not Mulling Over Assam-like NRC Exercise In Bihar, Says Sushil Modi

His statement comes at a time when at least four BJP-ruled states have backed the Assam-like exercise of updating citizen’s list, in a bid to solve infiltration related problems.

New Delhi: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi on Wednesday said that the government is not deliberating over bringing NRC exercise in Bihar as of now. While speaking to ABP News at Purvodaya 2019, Sushil Modi said that the NDA government does not plan to propose to the Centre for updating the citizen’s list in the state, to solve problems of infiltration. His statement comes at a time when at least four BJP-ruled states have backed the Assam-like exercise of updating citizen’s list, in a bid to solve infiltration related problems. On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that his government would think of bringing an Assam-like National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the hill state. Previously chief ministers of BJP-led states, including Haryana’s Manohar Lal Khattar and Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath and Jharkhand’s Raghubar Das, have said that contemplation on implementation of Assam-like NRC exercise is underway. Confident of BJP’s win in the Jharkhand Assembly poll scheduled for the later part of the year, Sushil Modi said that the party has set target of winning 65 seats. He said: “ Once again BJP will come to power in Jharkhand and will achieve its target of winning 65 seats. We understand the psyche and sentiment of the people of Jharkhand.” When asked about possibility of JDU and BJP alliance in Jharkhand, Modi said: “JDU-BJP alliance is limited to Bihar, it is not necessary for the two  state allies to contest election together outside  as well.”
