Punjab Tiffin Bomb Scare: CM Amarinder Singh Says Objective Unknown, Wasn't Focused On Farmers' Protest
Heavy police force was deployed outside temples and other religious places in Ludhiana on the occasion of Janmashtmi on Monday over the possibility of a tiffin bomb attack
Amritsar: A day after Punjab Police sounded an alert in the state over the possibility of a tiffin-bomb attack, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said that the objective behind the threat was not known yet.
"We don't know the objective behind it. It wasn't focused on farmers' protests. But the frequency in which weapons are being delivered in last 1.5 years, I have never seen this in my life," Singh said while speaking to reporters.
Heavy police force was deployed outside temples and other religious places in Ludhiana on the occasion of Janmashtmi on Monday over the possibility of a tiffin bomb attack which was delivered allegedly through a drone.
Even earlier this month, a high alert was sounded in Punjab following the recovery of a tiffin box, fabricated into an improvised explosive device (IED), along with hand grenades and 100 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition. These were recovered from Amritsar, close to the India-Pakistan border.
Police recovered bombs and ammunition after a massive combing operation, following inputs regarding drone activity in the area.
During the search operation, the police team recovered a bag carrying a double-decker children's lunch box and other ammunition packed very meticulously in soft foam pouches, news agency IANS had reported.

Responding to the development, Director General of Police, Punjab, Dinkar Gupta had said preliminary investigations indicated that the bag was dropped through a drone, which crossed the border into India.
Several media reports suggest that Punjab has been witnessing a huge influx of grenades and RDX-laden tiffin boxes, besides the recovery of other arms and ammunition, signalling major attempts being made by anti-national elements to disturb the peace and communal harmony in the border state.
