New Delhi: A case has been registered against a female Marathi artiste and two others after a video showing them performing dance on a Lavani number in the premises of Lal Mahal went viral on social media platforms
Lal Mahal is a historically significant location where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had spent several years of his early life. The FIR has been filed against dancer Vaishnavi Patil & 2 others under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 295 (defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 186 (voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his public functions), reported news agency PTI.
Patil is a celebrity dancer who had shot a short video at the Lal Mahal premises for a social media ‘reel’ that went viral on the social media.
She has been booked under sections 295 (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Faraskhana Police station, according to the Pune Police.
The historic building where the video has been shot is sacred to the Maratha community. The area comes under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation and one has to seek permission to shoot from the officials of the Heritage Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Patil along with two other persons were booked because they didn’t take permission (to shoot inside Mahal's premises), as per officials.
The incident came to light after several organisations objected to it once the video started making rounds over the Internet on May 16.
