Prophet Remarks Row: Suspended BJP Leader Nupur Sharma 'Untraceable', Mumbai Police On Her Trail

The Mumbai Police has been in the national capital for the last five days to arrest the former BJP leader Nupur Sharma.

The Mumbai Police team in Delhi to arrest suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma has been unable to trace her. The Mumbai Police claims said to have "enough evidence" against her to arrest Sharma in the case filed against her for making controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad, ABP News reported, citing sources in the Maharashtra Home Ministry.

The Mumbai police has been in the national capital for the last five days, but Sharma is "untraceable", the sources said.

Former BJP leaders Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal had made a controversial statement on Prophet Mohammed during a TV debate on May 26 and on social media, respectively.

The comments by both the leaders led to a huge uproar in India, and also abroad. Several Muslim nations issued statements condemning the remarks.

The government had been quick to distance itself from the party leaders' comments, which they said were made by "fringe elements". India also assured the world that it respects all religions.

The BJP suspended both the leaders.

The Mumbai Police registered a case against Nupur Sharma for making remarks on the Prophet, after a complaint was filed at Pydhonie police station by Raza Academy. Nupur Sharma was earlier sent the summons on email. But after she failed to appear, a police team reached Delhi to give her a physical copy of the same, India Today reported.

Meanwhile, a total of 357 people were arrested in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday in connection with the violence that erupted on June 10 over Nupura Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal's controversial remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
