'Police Need To Be Protected By Their Seniors,' Says Kiran Bedi After Delhi Cops' Unprecedented Protest

Former IPS officer and current LG of Puducherry Kiran bedi said “never drive men and women in uniform to the wall and let them lose faith in their own service and own seniors," as she reacted to massive Tuesday protest by Delhi Police personnel.

Police men and women who perform their duty responsibly, need to be protected by their seniors, said Kiran Bedi reacting to Tuesday's protest by Delhi cops.
Bedi said that she faced a similar situation in January 1988 when a lawyer arrested for theft in St. Stephen's college was brought to the Tis Hazari court in handcuffs.
On Tuesday, the agitating cops recalled Bedi with loud chants of "hamara CP (Commissioner of Police) kaisa Ho, Kiran Bedi jaisa ho".
New Delhi: Puducherry Lieutenant Governor and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, said that the police officers need to be protected by their seniors, as she reacted to Tuesday's unprecedented protests by Delhi police against recent incidents of clashed with lawyers. “Never drive men and women in uniform to the wall and let them lose faith in their own service and own seniors. They must trust their seniors that while they do their duty they shall be defended, protected and heard before being judged,” said Bedi in her blog titled “A call to leadership”. Defending the policemen she said, when police men and women perform their duty fairly, firmly, fearlessly and responsibly, they need to be protected by their seniors…it is their duty to ensure no one is prejudged and humiliated for doing their bonafide duty. We need a decisive force for all round protection, she said. Bedi said that she faced a similar situation in January 1988 when a lawyer arrested for theft in St. Stephen's college was brought to the Tis Hazari court in handcuffs. "But I remained firm and refused to budge to the demand of the lawyers seeking suspension/arrest of the cops responsible for hand cuffing the advocate," she told news agency PTI, adding that the person did not identify himself as an advocate at the time of his arrest and also gave a different name to the police. On Tuesday, the agitating cops recalled their former senior Kiran Bedi with loud chants of "hamara CP (Commissioner of Police) kaisa Ho, Kiran Bedi jaisa ho". Whereas, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik was booed by constables after he asked them to call off the agitation.
