It is not that PM Modi is celebrating Diwali for the first time with the soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier in the year 2019, after the removal of Article 370, he had reached Jammu and Kashmir. During this, Prime Minister Modi celebrated Diwali with the soldiers posted in the Rajouri district.

In his first year in office in 2014, Modi celebrated his first Diwali as PM with the soldiers of Siachen even when the temperature was in minus. "The entire country celebrates Diwali with family, so even I am here to celebrate the festival with my family," said PM Modi from Siachen in 2014.
In 2016, he visited Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh to celebrate Diwali among jawans, while in 2018 PM Modi celebrated it with the soldiers on the Tibet border.
