Mumbai Man Who Urinated On Woman On Flight Held In Bengaluru, To Be Produced Before Court Today: Top Points

Shankar Mishra, accused of urinating on a woman passenger on an Air India flight, was arrested by police in Bengaluru on Friday night.

New Delhi: Shankar Mishra, the passenger who is accused of urinating on a fellow passenger on an Air India flight from New York, has been arrested from Bengaluru. He was nabbed by the police on Friday night and has already been brought to Delhi, reported ANI citing Delhi police. Mishra will be produced before a court today, the police said.

  • Earlier, US financial services company Wells Fargo sacked Shankar Mishra, saying that the allegations were "deeply disturbing", reported PTI. The company said in a statement that it holds its employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behaviour and "we find these allegations deeply disturbing. We are cooperating with law enforcement and ask that any additional inquiry be directed to them," the statement read. 
  • Shankar's father defended him. In a bid to defend Shankar Mishra, his father Shyam Mishra on Friday said on camera that "perhaps he (his son) was being blackmailed". He also claimed that the case against his son is "false". He further said, "she (victim) had demanded payment and it was made. Don't know what happened next. Must have demanded something that perhaps wasn't met that upset her. Perhaps there was blackmailing, there must be something," he said, reported ANI.
  • Shyam Mishra claimed that his son slept in the flight and was questioned by the airline staff after he woke up. "False case. My son hadn't slept for 30-35 hrs. After dinner, he might've consumed the drink given by the crew and then slept. From what I understand, he was questioned by airline staff after he woke up," he added. 
  • The woman who was the victim of the alleged urination during the Air India flight from New York to New Delhi narrated the story of the incident, saying that the cabin crew forced the offender to sit next to her and brought him back in front of her against her will. She added that the suspect "unzipped his pants and peed on her" and continued to stand, reported news agency ANI.
  • In her complaint letter to Grievance Air Sewa, the elderly woman, who is in her 70s, said, “I would like to submit a complaint about my appalling experience travelling with on Air India Business Class Flight AI102, Seat 9A, from JFK to New Delhi on 26 November 2022. During the course of the flight, shortly after lunch was served and the lights were switched off, a male business class passenger seated in 8A walked to my seat, completely inebriated."
  • "He unzipped his pants and urinated on me and kept standing there until the person sitting next to me tapped him and told him to go back to his seat, at which point he staggered back to his seat. I immediately got up to notify the stewardess of what had happened. My clothes, shoes and bag were soaked in urine," she added.
  • The alleged incident occurred on November 26, 2022, when a Mumbai-based businessman Shankar Mishra, urinated on a female passenger on an Air India flight. As a result, the airline was forced to prohibit the man from flying for the next 30 days.
