Mumbai: 25-Year-Old Arrested For Threat Call To Airport, Police Say Was Inspired By Web Series

According to police, the caller introduced himself as Irfan Ahmed Sheikh and as a member of the terror outfit- Indian Mujahideen.

Mumbai Airport gets threat call from terror outfit Indian Mujahideen

After Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received a threat call on Monday night, police arrested the caller from Govandi area. The caller had introduced himself as Irfan Ahmed Sheikh of the terror group Indian Mujahideen (IM) and threatened to blow up the airport.

Police suspect the accused, 25, made the threat call after being inspired by social media or web series. Police is also probing whether any person got the call done through him.

The police suspect the accused is mentally unwell as he constantly changed his statements.

After receiving the threat call, all agencies of the airport were alerted. 

“Mumbai Police and other agencies at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were put on alert after receiving threat call on Monday. Caller introduced himself as Irfan Ahmed Sheikh and as member of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen,” read a statement from police.

According to information received from Mumbai Police, the security at the airport was immediately beefed up after they received the call and agencies were alerted to keep a close watch on every suspicious movement.

On February 3, National Investigation Agency (NIA) received a mail from an unidentified individual claiming to be a Talibani member threatening to carry out a terror attack in Mumbai, ANI reported.

 

"The person who sent the threat mail described himself to be a Talibani. He said that there would be a terror attack in Mumbai," Mumbai Police sources said.

Earlier in January, Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai received a threat call in which the unknown caller threatened to blow up the school.

According to Mumbai Police, a call was received at 4:30 pm on the landline of the school. The caller claimed to have planted a time bomb at the school.
