Shankaracharya Slams Mohan Bhagwat Over 'Mandir-Masjid' Remark: 'He Isn't Feeling Hindus' Pain'

Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati criticised RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for dismissing temple-mosque disputes, claiming he ignores Hindu suffering .

Another spiritual leader criticised Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat over his remark against raking up temple-mosque disputes. Slammig the RSS chief, Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati said he doesn't feel the plight of Hindus.

"Several Hindu temples are being demolished. This is the truth. He is not feeling the pain of Hindus," said the spiritual leader on Wednesday, reported NDTV. It is clear from his statement. He does not truly understand the plight of Hindus," he added.

On December 19, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat expressed concern over the resurgence of temple-mosque disputes. He said that certain individuals, after the construction of Ayodhya's Ram temple, seem to believe they can become "leaders of Hindus" by bringing up such issues.

"Mohan Bhagwat has claimed that some people raise these issues to become leaders, but I want to clarify that ordinary Hindus do not aspire to become leaders," Swami Avimukteshwaranand said.

Earlier this week, Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya expressed his reservation over Bhagwat's statement saying "Mohan Bhagwat is not our disciplinarian, but we are."

Bhagwat made the statement during a lecture in Pune on 'India-The Vishwaguru' at Sahjeevan Vyakhyanmala (lecture series).

"There should be a Ram Temple and it indeed happened. That is a site of devotion for Hindus... But raking up new issues every day for disdain and enmity should not be done. Some people think they can become leaders of Hindus by raking up such issues every day. This is not acceptable," he had said.

Bhagwat is under fire from the political front also as Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav asked the RSS chief to make an appeal for "harmony" to the BJP.

"If he even makes a call to the chief minister (Yogi Adityanath), then there will be no survey and no such controversy," said the Kannauj MP.

Congress general secretary in-charge Jairam Ramesh also slammed Bhagwat for his statement terming it as "double standards."
