Addl SP East Khasi Hills, Ashish said that there is a strong possibility of Sonam's invovlement in the murder, but added that the confirmation regarding her role can also be made once the investigation is completed.
"Today, the paperwork is being done to forward the suspects to the court. So we didn't get time to question them... There is a strong possibility that she (Sonam Raghuvanshi) is involved. But it is tough to confirm that yet because the investigation is pending... We are at the initial stages... As soon as we come to know new information, we will share it... Whatever information (is in the public domain) right now is not concrete," he said.
Meanwhile, sources told ABP News that Sonam Raghuvanshi has confessed to her role in the murder of her husband before the police during interrogation. Her confession comes after her arrest and her alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushawaha, earlier this week. Kushawaha worked at Sonam's family shop and is alleged to have been involved in a romantic relationship with her.
Notably, under Indian law, any confession made before police are not admissable in the court. It must be recorded before a magistrate for any such statement to hold evidentiary value.
Sonam and Raja had left for their honeymoon to Meghalaya after getting married on May 11 Indore. They disappeared on May 23, hours after checking out of a homestay at Nongriat village. On June 2, Raja's body was found 20 km from the village in a gorge in East Khasi Hills.
After being untraceable since May 23, Sonam finally surface at an eatery in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur on 8 June, claiming to be unwell. She surrendered to local police, following which she was placed under arrest.
According to police, Sonam hired three men Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Anand Kurmi to kill her husband. They were arrested from UP and Indore and Sagar towns. Raj Singh Kushwaha, the alleged conspirator, was arrested later. All four of them are currently in the transit custody of Meghalaya Police.
A tourist guide from Sohra in Meghalaya had alerted police about the presence of three men with Raja and Sonam on the day they went missing. He claimed that he identified one of the suspects after seeing some photographs and that the group spoke in Hindi.
