Mamata Banerjee Injured: Opposition Leaders Cry Foul Over Injury Claims; EC Seeks Report
While both BJP and Congress leaders termed the alleged attack on CM Mamata Banerjee as a stunt for sympathy, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal condemned the incident.
Kolkata: The fierce political atmosphere in the poll-bound state of West Bengal intensified further as CM Mamata Banerjee complained of being manhandled and sustaining a leg injury.
Among early reactions from politicians across party lines, Bharatiya Janata Party's national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya spoke to ABP News where termed the incident as a dramatic stunt for seeking sympathy.

He questioned how could this happen amid the convoy she was surrounded by. He added that the BJP wants a CBI probe into the matter so that the truth is unveiled.

When Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal was asked about the incident at an event, he responded saying: "I think I'll refrain from commenting. All of you're intelligent and have covered (reported on) such things all your life. Our didi is perturbed. These are signs of a defeated party and a defeated candidate. She'll lose from Nandigram and there'll be a change in West Bengal".
His remarks hinted at a similar opinion as shared by Kailash Vijayvargiya.

The Congress West Bengal chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also termed the incident as a "nautanki". News agency ANI quoted him as saying, "This is 'siyasi pakhand' to gain sympathy. Before the polls, she (Mamata Banerjee) planned this 'nautanki' after sensing difficulties in Nandigram. Not just CM, she is Police Mantri too. Can you believe that there was no Police with Police Mantri?".
On the other hand, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party's national head Arvind Kejriwal condemned the attack, demanding the arrest of the attackers involved.
Election Commission of India has sought a detailed report on the alleged violent incident as Trinamool Congress maintains that EC was responsible for the security of Mamata Banerjee.
The CM during her prior interaction with media persons had claimed that there was no local police or SP to protect her as she alleged conspiracy in the incident.
