Mother Found Lying Unconscious Beside Dead Child In Maharashtra Hotel, Father Missing
The couple is suspected to have entered into a suicide pact. Due to debt, they sold their flat in Vasai. They checked into the hotel on Friday.
New Delhi: A six-year-old girl was found dead next to her mother who was lying unconscious at a hotel in Maharashtra's Thane. The police suspect a "suicide pact" between the woman and her husband, an official said on Tuesday, according to a PTI report. The woman's husband is missing following the incident on Monday.
The couple was under a lot of debt and they sold their flat in the Vasai area of neighbouring Palghar district, the official from Mira Road police station said.
The couple, Rayan and Poonam Brako (30), along with their daughter Anakya (6) checked into the hotel in Mira Road area on Friday, PTI reported. They allegedly gave poison-laced food to their daughter on Sunday night. Later, the woman also allegedly consumed it and gave it to her husband as well, the official told PTI.
The hotel staff last attended to the family on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday. However, on Monday at around 1 pm, the woman raised an alarm after she found her daughter lying motionless. Medical experts were called and the police was alerted.
The woman's husband had apparently left the hotel on Monday and is missing since then. According to the police, when the man found out that the poison was not working on his wife, he allegedly tried to strangle her. She then fell unconscious.
The woman worked as a school teacher till last year, the police official said. Efforts are on to trace her husband.
