Mumbai: In order to maintain social distancing amid the Coronavirus pandemic, Maharashtra Government on Tuesday allowed home delivery of liquor. In an official notice issued on May 11, Maharshtra Government Excise Principle Secretary announced the development and also released certain guidelines and precautions which are to be followed during the home delivery.
"Maharashtra government hereby permits the licensee holding the licensees in form FL-II, FL/BR-II, FL/W-II, as appended to the Bombay Liquor Rules 1953, to sell the IMFL - Spirits, Beer, Mild Liquor, Wines, to the permit holders by effecting delivery at the home address of the permit holders, subject to the conditions," the official notice read.
The state government has issued certain conditions and guidelines which needs to be followed. According to the circular, home delivery of alcohol should be carried out by the liquor shop to those who have a permit to consume it.
Below is the official guidelines issued by Maharashtra government on home delivery of liquor:
Moreover, the licensee shall sell the IMFL - spirits, beer, Mild Liquor, wines only in respect of the liquor for which he is licensed to sale. The notice further read that the licensee shall effect sale and delivery of the foreign liquor only from within the area of the licensed premises and on the day and during the hour as specified.
The move came after the Supreme Court last week asked states to consider non-direct contact or online sales and home delivery of liquor during the COVID-19 lockdown period to prevent the spread of pandemic on account of crowding at the shops.
