In a highly tragic incident, a multi-storey building collapsed in Raigarh district of Maharashtra on Monday. As per the early reports, more than 100 people are feared to be trapped under the debris.

Meanwhile, news agency ANI reported that three NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams from Mumbai have been rushed to the spot to carry out the rescue operations.

The early visuals from the terrifying incident show a huge dust cloud and a heap of debris. So far, 15 people have been evacuated while efforts are being made to rescue others.

An NDRF official aware of the development reportedly said that the incident took place at about 6:50 pm on Monday evening in the Mahad Tehsil of Raigad.

"Today at about 1850 hrs, a ground+four floor building collapsed in Kajalpura area of Mahad Tehsil in District Raigad, Maharashtra. About 50 people are feared to be trapped. Three teams of 5 BN NDRF have moved to the spot with all the necessary equipment," the official said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The unfortunate incident has come just a week after a portion of a vacant building near Rizvi College in Mumbai’s Bandra collapsed on August 18. The five-storey building had collapsed leading to the death of a 41-year-old man while one person suffered severe injuries.

According to a report by IANS, At least 25 persons have been rescued so far.
Mahad Municipal Council President Snehal Jadhav told local media persons that there were no casualties till 9 pm.

A Reuters report quoted authorities as saying that 28 people were pulled out by rescue teams amid heavy monsoon rains and local residents had joined the operation at the disaster site in Mahad, an industrial town about 200 km (125 miles) south of Mumbai. The number of dead is yet to be ascertained.

Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray discussed the building collapse in Mahad with MLA Bharat Gogavale and District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary. The Chief Minister assured that the government would extend all possible cooperation for speedy rescue and relief work in the area.
