BJP Corporator, 11 Others In Maha Held For Violation Of Lockdown

The latest incidence in Maharasthra comes in light within five days after BJP legislator's birthday celebration video went viral.

Panvel (Raigad), April 11:  In yet another violation of the 21-day-nationwide lockdown, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) municipal corporator and 11 others have been held in Raigad district of Maharashtra on Saturday. The birthday celebration took place on Friday night when people reached the bungalow of local BJP corporator Ajay Bahira. The police raided the location and took all the members into custody, who were found consuming liquor during the party. The police have booked them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. This has led opposition leaders demanding stringent punitive action against Bahira, including the suspension. According to them, the suspension would serve as a deterrent to others. In a similar case from Karnataka, a BJP ruling legislator A.S. Jayaram has been allegedly found celebrating 51st birthday at a village in Tumakuru district on Saturday. Keche celebrated his birthday on April 5 and over 200 people gathered at his home in Arvi. It came to light after the videos and pictures went viral with the gathering estimated more than 200, as men and women were seen outside the lawmaker's home where the legislator was reportedly distributing relief material. The Wardha district authorities took serious note of the incident and slapped a notice on Keche, but the legislator alleged that it was "a conspiracy hatched by his political opponents". As the cases of coronavirus continue to increase it is important to follow the guidelines strictly.
