Kerala: 1 Dead, 15 Injured After School Bus Overturns In Valakkai

The accident took place when the bus lost control on a slop and flipped over near the Valakkai Bridge.

One student died and 15 others suffered injuries after the bus carrying them overturned in Valakkai, Kannur on Wednesday. The accident took place when the bus lost control on a slop and flipped over near the Valakkai Bridge. The bus was transporting students of Kurumathur Chinmaya school at the time of mishap. 

Public Relations Department Government of Kerala said: "A student of Class 5 lost her life in the school bus accident in Valakkai, Kannur. The bus belonged to Kurumathur Chinmaya School and was transporting students home after school hours."

The deceased student was thrown out from the bus and became trapped beneath it. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries later. The other injured students were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to reports, local residents responded swiftly initiated rescue efforts following the accident.

In 2017, a school bus transporting students lost control while ascending a hill to the campus, overturning and resulting in the death of an ayah walking towards the school. At least 15 students sustained injuries in the incident. A teacher accompanying the ayah on foot and another teacher aboard the bus also suffered severe injuries.

Police reported that the bus, hired by Santhome Public School, Vengoor, came to an abrupt halt while climbing the hill. It rolled backward, collided with a boundary wall, and toppled to one side after the driver lost control.
