J&K DGP Lauds Locals For Rescue Effort In BSF Bus Accident At Budgam, Announces Rewards, SPO Recruitment Drive

Jammu and Kashmir DGP R R Swain praised locals for rescuing injured BSF personnel in a tragic accident. He announced rewards and an SPO drive for the village.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain visited Brell village in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today, lauding the efforts of locals in rescuing injured personnel following a tragic accident involving a Border Security Force (BSF) bus. The accident occurred when the bus skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge, resulting in the deaths of three BSF personnel and injuries to 36 others.

Praising the swift action of the villagers, DGP Swain announced a cash prize and commendation certificates for those involved in the rescue efforts. He also revealed plans to conduct a Special Police Officer (SPO) recruitment drive in the village.

“The way locals of Brell village came out to rescue the injured is commendable. I heard women also came out to help the injured,” said DGP Swain while speaking to reporters at the accident site.

Recounting a personal account from a local driver, Swain shared: “I met a sumo driver who stated that one BSF personnel died in his arms while he was trying to rescue him. This was also without any materialistic motives behind. The rescue by locals was natural.”

He further assured the public that all injured personnel are receiving treatment, with none in a critical condition.

Regarding ongoing election preparations in the region, DGP Swain addressed the security measures being undertaken: “Security is being provided to candidates in the fray. Besides, the area where the election is taking place is also being secured. Police and other security forces are working under a plan to contest the areas where elections are taking place.”

Swain stressed that the ultimate goal is to foster a secure and fearless environment for voters. He also acknowledged that in the past, certain individuals had discouraged locals from assisting in such accidents involving security forces. However, he noted that efforts by the police have helped to change this dynamic, allowing residents to act freely and without fear in such situations.

“This is where police has worked to create an atmosphere, where everybody lives without fear and live freely in free air,” the DGP remarked.
