Hybrid Militant Arrested In Jammu & Kashmir's Shopian, Arms And Ammunition Seized

The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced the arrest of a hybrid militant in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Monday. The arrest was made in conjunction with the recovery of arms and ammunition, raising concerns about security in the region. According to a Jammu and Kashmir Police spokesperson, the incident unfolded at approximately 6 PM when a joint patrolling operation was underway in the villages of Manihal, Aloora, and DK Pora.

During a routine naka checking at Manihal Crossing, the security forces noticed suspicious movement by an individual approaching the naka point on foot.

When the individual spotted the police party and security forces, he attempted to flee the scene. However, the alert naka party managed to apprehend him skillfully. The suspect was identified as Bilal Ahmad Shah, the son of Miraq Shah and a resident of Vessu Qazigund, the police said.

During a search of his person, the security officials discovered a pistol, a magazine, 14 live rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone, and his Aadhar card. In preliminary questioning, Bilal Ahmad Shah reportedly admitted to being in possession of illicit weapons and ammunition. He revealed that he had received these items from an active militant with the intent of carrying out an attack in the Shopian district.

In response to this development, a case under FIR No. 54/2023 has been registered at PS Imamsahib, invoking sections 7/25 IAA, 18, 20, and 23 of UA(P) [Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act]. The investigation is underway, the police statement mentioned.
