Heavy Rainfall Triggers Landslides, Disrupts Traffic On Jammu-Srinagar Highway & Mughal Road

Multiple landslides wreaked havoc on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the Mughal Road in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, caused by heavy overnight rainfall. As a result, traffic movement on both vital highways was temporarily halted, affecting connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country.

Landslides occurred in a number of places in Ramban, including Mehar, Cafeteria Morh, Keela Morh, Sita Ram Passi, and Panthiyal, severely damaging a section of road near the Panthiyal tunnel, PTI reported. The Mughal Road, which connects Poonch and Rajouri districts with Shopian, was also affected by landslides near Rata Chambh in Poonch, it added.

According to the report, road clearing crews are working hard to restore traffic, while train services between Banihal and Qazigund stations have been halted for the day due to flooding near Hillar. Authorities have advised against travel until the restoration work is completed due to the inclement weather, which is expected to last until Sunday, it said.
