Sycophancy Eating Into Congress Like Termites: Jaiveer Shergill After Quitting Party

After resigning from his post, Shergill even removed as references to Congress from his Twitter handle.

In yet another blow to Congress, Jaiveer Shergill resigned from the position of National Spokesperson of the grand old party on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported. Shergill, in his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, said that he is sorry to say that decision making is no longer in the interest of the public and the country, but influenced by the selfish interests of those who indulge in sycophancy and constantly ignoring the ground reality.

"It pains me to say that decision-making is no longer for the interests of the public and country, rather it's influenced by the self-serving interests of individuals indulging in sycophancy and consistently ignoring on-ground reality," he said.

"In the past 8 years, I have not taken anything from Congress but only poured into the party. Today when I'm being pushed to bow down before people because they are close to the top leadership and this isn't acceptable to me" he said.

"The decision-making of the Congress party is not in sync with the ground reality anymore. I have been seeking time from Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for more than a year, but we are not welcomed in the office," Shergill pointed out.

"I have resigned from Congress, severed all ties with party," Shergill told news agency PTI.

Born in 1983, Shergill is also a practicing lawyer in the Supreme Court of India. After resigning from his post, Shergill even removed as references to Congress from his Twitter handle.

It is also worth noting that the 39-year-old politician has not addressed press conferences in the last few months. Shergill's resignation comes days after Congress' veteran leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, quit from there positions.

Sharma, who quit as the chief of the party panel for the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, said that he had no choice but to resign "due to continus insults and exclusion" while asserting he will remain a committed party member.

"I have resigned with a heavy heart from the Chairmanship of the Steering Committee of the Congress for the Himachal Elections. Reiterating that I am a lifelong congressman and remain firm on my convictions. Committed to Congress ideology that runs in my blood, let there be no doubts about this! However, given the continuing exclusion and insults, as a self-respecting person- I was left with no choice" Sharma said in a series of tweets.

Sharma was also been denied the Rajya Sabha nomination. Sources close to Sharma said he has sent his letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi after being sidelined from the working of the party unit in the state, news agency IANS reported.

Even Azad resigned as the party's Jammu & Kashmir campaign committee head. Azad was one of the prime movers of the G-23 and one of the vocal voices within the party over reforms.
