Instagram Restores Handle Of Indian Army's Chinar Corp, Facebook Assures Timely Solution

According to reports, the company had objected to some of the posts of Chinar Corp, alleging that they were against the rules laid down.

New Delhi: After blocking it for over a week, social media platform Instagram restored the account of Chinar Corps, the Indian Army's strategically located formation in the Kashmir valley on Wednesday.

Even Instagram's parent company Facebook had blocked the account of the Srinagar-headquartered XV Corps, popularly known as Chinar Corps, but has now assured a timely solution to the matter.

According to reports, the company had objected to some of the posts, alleging that they were against the rules laid down.

As the issue of Instagram and Facebook taking off the pages was highlighted, the social media website got in touch with the officials of the unit, following which the Instagram page, having around four lakh followers, was restored this morning.

Following e-mail interactions with the technical team of Facebook, the Instagram account was restored while the account on Facebook would be restored soon after all the material from the previous handle was shifted to a new handle, the officials told news agency PTI.

The Chinar Corps of Indian Army is responsible for guarding the Line of Control and anti-terror operations in mainland Kashmir.

Sources close to news agency IANS said that the blocking might have taken place due to unexpected mass complaints from Pakistan but also stated "how any country stops others from celebrations".

The Indian Army unit account was reported blocked on January 28, two days after India celebrated Republic Day and XV Corp pages posted how the locals took part in the celebration.
