IndiGo Passenger Who Tried To Open Plane’s Emergency Door Mid-Air Is Depressed, Wanted To Jump: Police
Biswajit Debath (41), from Jirania in West Tripura, was detained for "endangering the lives of hundreds of passengers" and engaging into a fight with crew members on board.
The police on Friday stated that the guy who attempted to unlock an emergency door of a Guwahati-Agartala Indigo flight mid-flight was depressed and intended to leap from the plane, news agency PTI reported. Biswajit Debath (41), from Jirania in West Tripura, was detained for "endangering the lives of hundreds of passengers" and engaging into a fight with crew members on board, according to Officer in Charge of Agartala Airport Police Station Abhijit Mandal. Mandal stated that he will appear in court on Friday.
“Biswajit has confessed that he suffers from depression and was trying to jump from the flight by opening the emergency door mid-air,” the police officer was quoted by PTI in its report.

Mandal stated that further inquiry into the incident is being conducted.
An official claimed the guy attempted to open the emergency door at 1 p.m. on Thursday, while the jet was flying 15 kilometres from the runway of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport here.
The crew and other passengers intervened and stopped the effort, and the aeroplane landed safely in Agartala, according to an Airports Authority of India spokesoerson.

The man, however, rejected the attempts to stop him and fought with the cabin crew and other passengers. The cabin crew alerted the captain, who returned the plane to Agartala Airport, where Biswajit was detained.
