Another Indian Student Dies In US As 25-Year-Old From Telangana Drowns At Waterfall
The Indian student drowned at Barberville Falls in New York on July 7. The Consulate General of India is assisting with the repatriation of his remains.
A 25-year-old Indian student from Trine University, Indiana, drowned at a waterfall in New York on Sunday, the Consulate General of India in New York has said. Sai Surya Avinash Gadde lost his life at Barberville Falls, a popular travel site located about 240 km from New York City.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Mr Sai Surya Avinash Gadde, a student at Trine University, who drowned on 7th July at Barbervilley (sic) Falls, Albany, NY," the mission posted on X.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his grieving family and friends. @IndiainNewYork is extending all necessary assistance, including the issuance of NOC for the transportation of Mr Gadde’s mortal remains to India,” the Consulate General of India in New York said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

The LinkedIn profile of Gadde shows that he enrolled at Trine University for a Master's in the 2023-24 session. Gadde, who belonged to Telangana, was in New York for the US Independence Day (July 4) holiday.
“One person died and another was rescued at Barberville Falls in Poestenkill on Sunday. The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office says the person who died was a man not from the area,” a local news outlet, News10.com, reported on Monday. The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office was quoted as saying that the man who was rescued was saved by a good Samaritan.
Upsurge In Death Of Indians In US
The death of Gadde follows several cases involving young Indians in the US passing away, in accidents as well as murders, among other reasons.
Last month, 32-year-old Dasari Gopikrishna, who arrived in the US less than a year ago, was shot dead during a robbery. The incident occurred at a convenience store in Dallas, Texas, on June 21. An arrest has been made in the case.
PTI reports that, last week, the Consulate General of India said it has developed a special platform to support Indian students in the US.
