Quad Meet Likely To Strengthen Strategic Relations, Attract Investment: Indian Envoy To Japan

Days before his scheduled visit, PM Modi said that the Quad summit would provide an opportunity to discuss various bilateral issues.

New Delhi: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Japan to take part in the second in-person Quad leaders’ summit, the Indian ambassador to Japan, Sanjay Kumar Verma said the summit is set to boost the strategic ties between the two countries, apart from helping in attracting investments. “Japan is very much excited about opportunities in India, especially PLI schemes, so they need to understand us better, we need to understand them better,” news agency ANI quoted Verma as saying.

Days before his scheduled visit, PM Modi said that the Quad summit would provide an opportunity to discuss various bilateral issues.

He added that all the Quad Leaders will also exchange their views about developments in the Indo-Pacific region, and international issues of mutual interest.

Notably, the newly-elected Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will also be joining the Quad Leaders’ Summit for the first time.

PM Modi said that he is looking forward to a bilateral meeting with Anthony Albanese during which the multifaceted cooperation between India and Australia, under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and regional and international issues of mutual interest will be on the agenda.

Speaking on the trade front, Verma talked about a trilateral supply chain deal signed between India, Australia and Japan.

Elaborating further, he said that several supply chains are concentrated in one particular region and when that gets disrupted, it affects the entire supply chain. Therefore, without a trusted supply chain, it becomes very difficult for the workers to have a predictable lifestyle.

Verma called the Quad a group of some like-minded nations that have mutual values on global law, democracy or market economy.

It is to be noted that in March 2022, the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited India to participate in the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit.
