'Unacceptable, Extremely Petty': Congress MP Jairam Slams WC Organisers For Not Inviting Kapil Dev

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticised the organisers of the ICC World Cup final match after Kapil Dev confirmed that he did not receive an invitation to the World Cup final between India and Australia

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticised the organisers of the ICC World Cup final match held in Ahmedabad on Sunday for their failure to invite former India captain Kapil Dev to the event. This comes after Kapil Dev confirmed that he did not receive an invitation to the World Cup final between India and Australia in Ahmedabad. Kapil, who led India to their first ODI World Cup title in 1983, expressed his desire to attend the game with the rest of his teammates but was not extended an invitation.

Ramesh expressed his discontent on social media, stating, "It is simply unacceptable and extremely petty that Kapil Dev was not invited by the cricket establishment for the World Cup final in Ahmedabad. Like Bedi, Kapil Dev is known to speak his mind, and he did come out openly in support of the agitating women wrestlers a few months back."

“I wasn’t invited there. They didn’t call me so I did not go. As simple as that. I wanted the whole ’83 team to be there with me but I guess due to the fact that it’s such a big event and people are so busy handling responsibilities, sometimes they forget,” Kapil Dev told ABP News.

Sourav Ganguly, another former India captain, was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Badminton legend Prakash Padukone and Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh were also seen in attendance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ICC World Cup cricket final between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the last hour of the match. The Australian Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles, was also present. Modi watched the game alongside Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Modi and Marles arrived separately at Ahmedabad airport to witness the highly anticipated final.

Australia Clinches Sixth World Cup Trophy

Australia secured their unparalleled status in the ODI World Cup by claiming their sixth trophy in the final against India. Despite India's formidable performance throughout the tournament, Australia's meticulous planning and execution led them to victory as they chased down a target of 241 in just 43 overs. Travis Head's outstanding innings of 137 runs off 120 balls played a crucial role in Australia's triumph. Australia's skipper Pat Cummins, before the final, had expressed satisfaction in silencing a big crowd, and the team delivered on that promise. After initial defeats in their opening two matches, Australia made a remarkable comeback, winning their next nine games, including the decisive final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
