India-Bangladesh Passenger Trains To Begin Today After Two Years Covid-19 Gap

Passenger train services between India-Bangladesh will begin on May 29, and tickets for these trains have already been sold out. Miltali train service will begin on June 1.

New Delhi: Train services for passengers between India and Bangladesh will begin on May 29 after a long gap of almost 2 years due to Covid-19, officials informed on Saturday, according to an ANI report. This move aims to accommodate the commuters in both India and Bangladesh. The officials also informed that Mitali Express, third India- Bangladesh train service is set to start on June 1 from New Jalpaiguri to Dhaka. 

"For the convenience of commuters of both India and Bangladesh, Kolkata - Dhaka - Kolkata Maitree Express and Kolkata - Khulna - Kolkata Bandhan Express will resume services from May 29," informed Chief Public Relations Officer, Eastern Railway, Ekalabya Chakraborty.

The tickets have been booked for these trains and have already sold out.

Earlier in the week, it was announced that the "Mitali Express", is scheduled to begin its journey from West Bengal's New Jalpaiguri station in India to Dhaka in Bangladesh, from June 1 onwards. The train will cover the distance of 513 kilometres between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka (Dhaka Cantonment station) in nine hours.

As of now, it will run with four air-conditioned cabin coaches, and four air-conditioned chair cars and would be hauled by a diesel locomotive.

During a two-day visit to Coochbehar and NJP station, Minister of State for Railways Darshana Jardosh said that the customs, and immigration services will be in place for the international train journey.

While talking to ANI, the Minister said that along with bilateral ties, the "Mitali Express" will help flourish tourism.

The Minister further said there will be a hospital, shopping complexes, and low budget hotels to facilitate around the station in the coming days.
