What Is ‘PM Gati Shakti Master Plan? The Rs 100 Lakh Crore Project For National Infra

Independence Day 2021: The PM said the Gati Shakti project will be a source of future employment opportunities for lakhs of youth in the country.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address to the nation on India’s 75th Independence Day on Sunday, announced that his government will launch ‘PM Gati Shakti Master Plan’ for national infrastructure. The project with a layout of Rs 100 lakh crore aims to develop “holistic infrastructure” and give an integrated pathway to the country’s economy that has taken a hit in the wake of the pandemic.

The PM said the project would be a source of future employment opportunities for lakhs of youth in the country.

“In the coming days, we will launch PM Gati Shakti Plan, a 100 lakh crore national infrastructure master plan which will make a foundation for holistic infrastructure and give an integrated pathway to our economy,” Modi said on Sunday.

What Is Gati Shakti And What Does It Focus On? 

PM Modi there is no harmony in the modes of transport in the country at present, and Gati Shakti would come in aid on this front as it will break the silos and bottlenecks.

"This will reduce travel time and industry productivity will increase even more," he said.

The PM also said Gati Shakti would help the local manufacturers to be globally competitive, besides raising the possibilities of new future economic zones.

Gati Shakti will become the basis of India's rejuvenation, he said.

During his nearly 90 minutes speech, Modi also said India’s manufacturing and exports volumes should increase. 

He said the country will have to work together to make “world-class products”, using new age technology and cutting-edge innovation.

"We have to work together...for next generation infrastructure, for world class manufacturing, for cutting edge innovation, and we have to work together for new age technology," he said.

He also mentioned the tax reforms introduced by his government for lending impetus to ''ease of living'' and ''ease of doing business''.

While more details about the Gati Shakti project are awaited, the PM said “we don’t have a moment to lose", as he mentioned the goal is to make sure all eligible persons are covered under the government schemes designed for service delivery.
