IIM-Calcutta Student 'Raped' In Boys Campus Hostel; Second Case In A Month After Law College Episode

The FIR in Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) rape case also stated that accused allegedly threatened the survivor with severe consequences if she chose to speak out about the incident.

A female student of the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) has filed a police complaint alleging that she was sexually assaulted by a fellow student inside a campus hostel, officials confirmed on Saturday. The disturbing incident reportedly took place on Friday within the boys’ hostel premises of the prestigious institute.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Haridevpur Police Station, the complainant said she had been invited for a counselling session by the accused, as per a report on PTI. During the interaction, she was allegedly offered a drink suspected to have been spiked. She lost consciousness shortly thereafter and later realized she had been sexually assaulted.

The FIR also stated that the accused allegedly threatened the survivor with severe consequences if she chose to speak out about the incident.

"The woman stated in the FIR that she was called to the hostel for a counselling session. She then became unconscious after consuming a drink laced with drugs at the hostel. The woman realised she had been raped after regaining consciousness," the police officer said.

Following the complaint, Kolkata Police arrested the accused student and have begun a detailed investigation.

Congress Stages Protest

In the wake of the incident, around 100 Congress party workers staged a protest outside the IIM-C campus, demanding a meeting with the Director and pressing for increased institutional accountability.

Congress leader Asutosh Chatterjee said, as per a report on PTI, "the security guards are stopping us from entering the campus. But where was this security for women if the allegation inside the boys' hostel of a premier institute is true? After the South Calcutta Law College gang rape of a woman student by her own college seniors and alumni on campus, now another allegation has surfaced involving a central educational institute. It puts our heads to shame."
