A Hawk trainer aircraft met with an accident at Kalaikunda, West Bengal on Tuesday during a training sortie, the Indian Air Force (IAF) informed. "Both the pilots ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident. No loss of life or damage to civilian property," it stated.

According to PTI, a Defence official informed that the aircraft crashed in a civilian area near the Kalaikunda Air Force Station between 4 pm and 5 pm while returning from the training exercise. Despite the proximity to civilian settlements, there were no casualties or damage to property reported, PTI reported. The Air Force Station Kalaikunda primarily serves as a training base.

A court of inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the accident.  

2 Pilots Died In IAF Aircraft Crash In Hyderabad

In a similar event last December, two pilots lost their lives when a Pilatus training aircraft crashed in Hyderabad. The IAF confirmed the fatalities, stating that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Earlier in June 2023, an IAF Kiran trainer aircraft crashed on the outskirts of Chamarajanagar town. Fortunately, the pilots, identified as Tejpal and Bhumika, ejected safely before the crash. They sustained injuries but were airlifted to Bengaluru for treatment. Local authorities reported no civilian casualties, although a portion of the aircraft caught fire upon impact.
