MHA Seeks President's Approval For Prosecution Of AAP's Satyendar Jain
Officials said they have sufficient evidence based on the material they have received from the Enforcement Directorate to prosecute Satyendar Jain in the alleged corruption case.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday requested the President to grant prosecution sanction for initiating legal proceedings against Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi government minister Satyendar Kumar Jain. The MHA has sought action against the AAP leader under Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Officials said they have sufficient evidence based on the material they have received from the Enforcement Directorate to prosecute Satyendar Jain in the alleged corruption case.
The ministry requested the sanction from the president of India on the basis of an ED investigation and the presence of "adequate proof".
Jain was booked by the federal agencyin a money-laundering case linked to alleged hawala dealings. He was arrested in May 2022.
The 60-year-old AAP leader held the health, power, and a few other portfolios when ED took him into custody. He has been charge-sheeted by the ED, but is currently out on bail.
The money-laundering case was filed following an FIR filed against Jain and others in August 2017 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), wherein he was accused of possession of disproportionate assets.
In December 2018, the CBI filed a chargesheet, stating that the alleged disproportionate assets were worth Rs 1.47 crore, which was about 217 per cent more than Jain's known sources of income during the period 2015-17.
The ED had said that it found during the probe that during 2015-16, Jain was a public servant and four companies that were beneficially owned and controlled by him got accommodation entries (hawala) amounting to Rs 4.81 crore from shell (bogus) companies. The amount was received against cash transferred to Kolkata-based entry operators through the hawala route.
The agency also said these amounts were used for direct purchase of agricultural land or loan repayment for purchase of agricultural land in and around the national capital.
Earlier, former Delhi chief minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal had earlier defended Jain, claiming he was being framed in a false case and that he was an honest and patriotic person.
