Himachal Pradesh: Cloudburst Triggers Flash Floods, 4 People Missing. 1 Killed In Shimla Landslide

Due to continuous rainfall since Tuesday night, flash floods and landslides have been reported from various parts of Himachal Pradesh.

New Delhi: At least four people have been feared washed away in flash floods triggered by a cloud burst in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Wednesday. The flash flood hit Manikaran valley in Kullu district, destroying dozens of houses and damaging camping sites in Choj village, Superintendent of Police of Kullu, Gurudev Sharma, was quoted by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, a landslide on the outskirts of Shimla city left a woman dead and two others critically injured. The state has been witnessing unrelenting rainfall since Tuesday night.

In Kullu, a search operation has been launched by rescue teams but they are stuck midway due to landslides, PTI reported. A video tweeted by ANI shows water gushing down the hill and drowning some structures.

State Disaster Management Director Sudesh Mokhta told PTI that four to six people have been missing after the incident at Chojh village in Challal panchayat of Kullu district at around 6 am. At least five cattle have also been washed away in the flash floods.

On Wednesday morning, a landslide occurred at the Dhalli-Tutikandi bypass in Shimla in which a 14-year-old girl was killed. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Shimla.

Due to continuous rainfall since Tuesday night, flash floods and landslides have been reported from various parts of the state. Flash floods have been reported from three different locations in Kullu and Kinnaur districts, reports said.

On Monday, 13 passengers were killed and two others were injured after a private bus fell into a 200-foot deep gorge in the Kullu district. The school bus was en route from Kullu to Sainj on Neoli-Shansher road in Sainj valley when the accident took place. There was a landslide at the spot earlier that morning and the bus skidded on the soil, the bus conductor told ANI.
