Packets Of Drugs Continue To Wash Up On Gujarat Coast, 40 Found In A Day In Kachchh

On Monday, police in Porbandar recovered half a dozen packets of cannabis from coastal village. The same day, 40 packets of charas were found in Kachchh.

Over the last few days, police in Gujarat have found more than 200 packets of narcotics as they washed up on the coast. These include 87 packs of charas recovered from the Kachchh and Porbandar districts. Eighty-one of these packets were recovered in Kachchh in the last three days, 40 on Monday alone, the police were quoted as saying by PTI.

On Monday, police in Porbandar recovered half a dozen packets of cannabis from the coastal village of Odadar. The same day, 40 packets of charas were found near the coast in Mandvi taluka of Kachchh.

With this, the number of charas packets found in areas such as Nal Sarovar, Jakhau and Mandvi in the last 3 days has risen to 81, with the contraband seized estimated to cost Rs 40 crore, Kutch (West) Superintendent of Police Mahendra Bagadiya said on Monday.

A few days ago, police in Kachchh also recovered abandoned packets containing methamphetamine, according to the PTI report. 

Police say these packets containing narcotic substances were washed ashore by waves due to favourable wind conditions after they were possibly dumped by smugglers in the deep sea over the fear of being caught, the report said. 

After the latest seizures, police have registered cases against unidentified persons under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The Devbhumi Dwarka police on Sunday said as many as 115 packets containing 124 kg charas valued at Rs 62 crore were found washed up on the seacoast in Kachchh over 10 days, PTI reported.
