One Year Of Galwan Tragedy: Army Remembers 'Supreme Sacrifice' Of Indian Bravehearts

At least 20 soldiers lost lives while defending the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in a faceoff with the Chinese troops at the Galwan Valley a year ago.

New Delhi: The Indian Army on Tuesday remembered the Galwan bravehearts with Army Chief General M.M. Naravane leading the armed forces in paying tribute the 20 soldiers, who made “supreme sacrifice” while defending the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in a faceoff with the Chinese troops at the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh a year ago.

“General MM Naravane #COAS & All Ranks of #IndianArmy pay homage to the #Bravehearts who made supreme sacrifice in Galwan Valley #Ladakh while defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. Their valour will be eternally etched in the memory of the #Nation,” the Army posted on Twitter.

The Army’s Leh-based 14 Corps also paid homage to the “bravehearts” on the first anniversary of the Galwan clashes.

“Remembering the #Bravehearts of #Galwan Maj Gen Akash Kaushik, Officiating GOC  #FireandFuryCorps laid a wreath at #Leh War Memorial & paid homage to #Bravehearts who laid down their lives at #Galwan on 15 Jun 2020  while fighting for the #Nation. #IndianArmy,” the Army tweeted.

Earlier on June 15 last year, clashes had broken out between the troops of the Indian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army leading to the death of 20 Indian Army soldiers, including Colonel B. Santosh Babu.

“#Galwan Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu displayed conspicuous #gallantry, exemplary #leadership and firm determination in the face of the enemy in the best traditions of the #IndianArmy. Posthumously awarded #MahaVirChakra https://gallantryawards.gov.in/awardee/4950,” Army said in another post.

There have been 11 rounds of military dialogue between the two sides post the Galwan clashes.
