G20 Summit: Delhi Urban Shelter Officials, Cops Meet To Plan Relocation Of Beggars

The Delhi government issued orders on Thursday to remove and relocate beggars from the Hanuman Mandir area in preparation for the forthcoming G20 Summit.

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) met with Delhi Police officials on Saturday to devise a strategy for removing and relocating beggars from the Hanuman Mandir area near the Kashmere Gate ISBT to night shelters, according to officials, news agency PTI reported.

The Delhi government issued orders on Thursday to remove and relocate beggars from the Hanuman Mandir area in preparation for the forthcoming G20 Summit.

A meeting was conducted with the social welfare department and the Delhi Police to discuss the beggar rescue effort. DUSIB member Bipin Rai stated that after the beggars are transferred, the same services that are offered at government shelter houses would be supplied to them.

"First, we will map the beggars and hold surveys to understand how many of them are there near the Kashmere Gate ISBT. We will also find out the number of family members of the beggars and proceed with the plan accordingly," he said earlier.

A four-member team, under the chief engineer of DUSIB, has been created to cooperate with government agencies and produce an action plan by Tuesday to "move the beggars to night shelters situated in Dwarka and other sites where room is available".

On December 1, India assumed the G20 presidency. Starting this month, the summit will be the climax of all G20 procedures and talks with ministers, senior officials, and civil organisations.

As India's G20 presidency begins on December 1, the Delhi Government has planned to hold a variety of events, including a dedicated 'G20' day in all schools, to educate and sensitise youngsters about the G20 and its importance during India's presidency.

According to organisers, the G20 day will be marked on the last working day of each month through November 2023.

The G20 summit sessions, festivities, and celebrations will begin in March 2023, with the summit taking place on September 9 and 10, 2023.
