Delhi MCD polls to take place on April 22, EC declines Kejriwal's demand seeking use of ballot paper

New Delhi: Election Commission on Tuesday declined Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal’s demand seeking use of ballot paper in place of EVM machines for the upcoming MCD elections in Delhi. The issue of tampering with the votes was raised after BSP supremo faced a shocking defeat in Assembly elections and BJP came as a majority party. "The shocking result of the assembly elections indicates that the EVMs accepted votes only in favour of the BJP," Mayawati told a press briefing. "After the results in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, all opposition parties should think about it more seriously," Mayawati said. After Mayawati, even Kejriwal raised same issue and sought the use of traditional method of voting.  Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday wrote to Election Commission, saying EVMs should not be used for upcoming Municipal Elections in Delhi which are going to take place in April. EC declares date for MCD polls: Election Commission in a press briefing on Tuesday announced that the MCD elections in Delhi would take place on April 22. EC also clarified against Delhi CM’s demand seeking use of ballot paper.
