Election Commission Begins Preparations For 2022 Assembly Polls In 5 States Including UP, Punjab
Chief Election Commissioner held meeting with Election Commissioners of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Elections are going to be held in these states early next year.
New Delhi: Different political parties have already started their preparations for the Assembly Elections of five states beginning next year. Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission has also started brainstorming about its preparations for the upcoming elections. A meeting was held regarding the same on Wednesday where discussions related to polls next year were debated.
In the Central Election Commission, although the Election Commissioner meets every week on different issues, but the meeting held today i.e. on July 28 is considered to be important because as it had on agenda the upcoming polls in as many as five states.
Interestingly, early next year, Assembly Elections are to be held in states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.
Out of these 5 states, BJP rules in 5, while there is Congress has government in Punjab.
The EC meeting holds much significance with country's populous state Uttar Pradesh, which has more than 400 assembly seats, is slated for polls in 20222.
Officials present at the meeting said that conducting elections in such a large state, especially during the Corona period, can only be called a big challenge for the Central Election Commission.
