Did Shatrughan Sinha Say Non-Veg Food Should Be Banned? Check Out Video

Shatrughan Sinha was talking about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which the Uttarakhand government implemented on January 27, making it the first state in independent India to put into effect such a law.

Shatrughan Sinha Non-Veg Food: Actor and Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha cited a ban on non-veg food while talking about the Uniform Civil Code. Sinha praised the implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand but pointed out the loopholes in enforcing such a law nationwide.

"Beef has been banned in many parts of the country. I think that not only beef but non-vegetarian food in general should be banned in the country. However, in some places, it is still legal to consume beef, including in the Northeast. Waha khao toh yummy, par humare North India mein khao toh mummy (It is okay to eat it in the northeast, but not in North India)," he told reporters outside Parliament.

He added, "But this is not going to work, a ban should be enforced everywhere, not just in certain parts."

Shatrughan Sinha On UCC

Sinha said an all-party meeting must be held before drafting UCC provisions. "Everyone should be consulted for their opinions and thoughts on the issue. The UCC should not be looked at as an election or vote bank strategy but should be handled with care and caution," he added.

The Uttarakhand government implemented the Uniform Civil Code on January 27, making it the first state in independent India to put into effect such a law. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the implementation of the law is a true tribute to the makers of the Constitution, BR Ambedkar, and all the respected members of the Constituent Assembly.

How Will UCC Impact Citizens?

The UCC will govern and regulate the laws relating to marriage and divorce, succession, live-in relationships and related matters. It sets equal marriageable age for men and women, grounds of divorce and procedures across all religions, and bans polygamy and 'halala'.

Under this, marriage can be solemnised only between those parties; none of whom has a living spouse, both are mentally capable of giving legal permission, the man should have completed at least 21 years of age and the woman 18 years of age. They should not be in the ambit of "prohibited relationships".
