Kapil Mishra Questions AAP On Tahir Hussain; Kejriwal Says Double The Punishment If Found Guilty

When asked about his remarks on the issue, Kejriwal said, "Why are you asking for remarks.. Is this how we will run our criminal justice system? If anyone is accused from our side, give them double the punishment, but stop politicising national issues."

New Delhi: Reacting to the allegations of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Tahir Hussain's involvement in violence that took place in northeast Delhi on Sunday afternoon, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that no one, be it any party, should be spared if they are responsible for inciting violence. "Any person found guilty should be given strict punishment. If any Aam Aadmi Party member is found guilty, he or she should be given double the punishment," AAP Chief told reporters while addressing a press conference explaining steps taken by Delhi government to tackle the situation. Kejriwal further said that even if anyone from his cabinet is found guilty, must be punished. " I personally believe that there should not be any politics when it comes to national security and clashes," he said. WATCH REPORT | Arvind Kejriwal On Tahir Hussain: Give Him Double Punishment If He's guilty AAP councilor Tahir Hussain is being accused of inciting riot in northeast Delhi and being involved in the killing of Intelligence Bureau worker Ankit Sharma, whose body was found in a drain near his home in Jaffrabad area. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) firebrand leader Kapil Mishra kept on questioning AAP government for their silence on the issue. Further hitting out at Hussain and AAP, Mishra said, " No question is being asked to people who are talking about dividing country or those on whose terrace petrol bombs were found. But someone who only requested for road to be cleared as it was causing inconvenience to 35 lakh people is being called a terrorist. As per the videos doing round of social media, Hussain can be seen on the roof of a building along with some men who appear to be involved in stone-throwing. Controversial AAP Leader Accused Of Lynching IB Officer Earlier in the day, BJP leader Kapil Mishra had demanded a scrutiny of the call details of Tahir Hussain whereas BJP MP Gautam Gambhir claimed that the Chief Minister's 'silence is deafening'. Meanwhile, Kejriwal announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the kin of those who died in the riots. He also announced the widening of the ambit of the 'Farishte' scheme, whereby anyone affected by the violence can also avail of free treatment at any private hospital. Those seriously hurt will get Rs 5 lakh each. He also announced compensation for damage to property and possessions like rickshaws. Kejriwal said that an app would be rolled out for filing of compensation claims by the affected. Those who lost their homes will be accommodated at Rain Baseras (night shelters) till their houses are rebuilt, said the Chief Minister. He also said his government will provide food in riot-affected areas, in view of curfew imposed in some areas. Violence in northeast Delhi was triggered on Sunday afternoon after a face-off between pro- and anti-CAA groups, leading to the death of at least 36 persons, including a police official and an IB staffer. Over 200 persons were injured.
