Delhi Records Season's Hottest Day, IMD Predicts Severe Heat Wave Conditions For Next 3 Days

Delhi Weather Update: On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.2 degrees Celsius, seven notches above the season's average. The mercury will rise further.

Delhi Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted severe heat wave conditions for the next three days in Delhi even as the national capital recorded its hottest day of the season on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.2 degrees Celsius, seven notches above the season's average. The mercury will rise further, the IMD said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 18.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal. Humidity levels oscillated between 79 per cent and 14 per cent, PTI reported.

The maximum temperature touched 40 degrees Celsius at many places in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Narela recorded a maximum temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius, 10 notches above the normal.

"The lack of rain in March has led to such intense heat. Normally, Delhi receives 15.9 mm of rainfall in March on an average," PTI quoted IMD officials as syaing.

In the next three days, the IMD said maximum temperature is likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 20 degrees Celsius.

A 'heatwave' is declared when the maximum temperature is more than 40 degrees Celsius, and at least 4.5 notches above normal. A 'severe heatwave' is declared if maximum temperature is more than 6.5 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.

Weather Updates For Other Parts Of India:

The IMD has also predicted severe heat wave conditions in northwest, central and west India for the next couple of days. Meanwhile, light to moderate rains are forecast for Northeastern states.

Rajasthan also reeled under a heat wave as temperatures in Pilani in Jhunjhunu touched a high of 43.1 degrees Celsius. Pilani was followed closely by Churu, which registered a maximum temperature of 43 degree celsius on Tuesday.

At least 10 districts in Jharkhand are likely to experience heat wave for three days from Wednesday. The maximum temperature might touch 43 degrees Celsius in some places. The districts that could get affected by the heat wave are Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Simdega, East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan.

Heat wave conditions are also likely to prevail over south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, northern parts of east Madhya Pradesh, north Maharashtra and Marathwada from March 30-April 1, 2022.
